GRATZ MAN, 74, KILLED BY AUTO
Harry E. Umholtz, 74, was instantly killed when struck by an automobile on the highway near his home in Gratz Friday evening.
He sustained fractures of both legs and other injuries.
It was stated that the accident occurred when the man was attempting to cross the street, stepped into the path of a car which State Police of the Lykens sub-station reported was operated by Williard Kissinger of Spring Glen Star Route.
Mr. Umholtz was a son of Josiah Umholtz and Mary [Ritzman] Umholtz and was a native of Lykens Township.
He had operated a newspaper agency and had served as assistant postmaster of Gratz for a number of years. He was a member of Simeon’s Reformed Church of Gratz.
Survivors are four sisters: Mrs. Harry Troxell, of Gratz; Mrs. Jacob Ulsh, and Mrs. Mame Schwalm, of Millersburg; and Mrs. Annette Coleman, of Sacramento, and several nephews and nieces.
Services were held from the residence at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev. A. Levan Zechman, pastor of the Lykens Valley Reformed Charge officiated and interment was made in the Gratz Cemetery.
