A transcription of the will of Philip Dietrich (1794-1871), of Hubley Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, as recorded in the Schuylkill County Court House, Book 3, page 512.
Last Will of Philip Dietrich, Deceased
In the name of God Amen. I Philip Dietrich of Hubley Township, Schuylkill County and state of Pennsylvania, farmer, being in perfect health of body and of sound mind, memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this to be my last will and testament, in manner and from following, to wit: – It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first and duly paid out of the first money coming into the hands of my Executor hereafter mentioned as soon as conveniently can be made after my decease.
1st item – I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Eve my plantation where I now reside and all my personal property belonging to me. During my natural lifetime, if she remains my widow in the same manner as I now have it.
2nd item – I give and bequeath my said plantation above mentioned unto my two sons Samuel and Paul after my said wifes decease as aforesaid mentioned, to be equally divided among, as nearly equal as can be, for which each of them shall pay to my hereafter named executor five hundred dollars immediately after my said wifes decease.
3rd item – I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah, intermarried with Martin Koppenhaver the lot house, frame stable and out buildings therein erected where she now lives on, and three hundred dollars, and after the death of my said wife as aforesaid I order my Executor hereinafter mentioned shall pay seven hundred dollars thereto, making one thousand dollars in all as her prorate share.
4th item – I give and bequeath unto my daughter Nelly intermarried to James Bixler the grist mill where she lives or used to live called the mill tract of land at the rate of one thousand dollars.
5th item – I give and bequeath unto my son Salomon and my daughter Lydia, to each of them four hundred dollars to be paid to them each separately four hundred dollars, by my hereinafter named executor as soon as possible after the death of my said wife.
6th item – Be it understood that I have already given in land unto each of my other children, to wit – unto David and Elias and Moses and Emanuel to each of them to the value of one thousand dollars, and further to be understood that after each of my children shall have received one thousand dollars out of my real and personnel estate after the decease of my said wife, then of all my children shall have share and share alike of all the remainder of my estate whatever may be left, and for all my lands for which I have not already given deeds to my children, I order and direct my hereafter named executor to make, execute and deliver good and lawful deeds to each of them for the land aforesaid mentioned the same as myself if living.
7th and lastly I appoint and name my son David Dietrich to be my Executor to this my last will and testament.
