Leroy Kopp Began 40th Year as Chief of Police
Police Chief Leroy Kopp, who last fall announced that he was going to retire, is still continuing as police chief here, a job that he has held since 23 August 1923. He agreed to serve until his successor is elected by the borough council.
Mr. Kopp served on the local police force for a year before he became chief. Prior to that, he was employed in the blacksmith shop at Brookside Colliery.
Born 9 July 1897, he is a lifelong resident of Tower City. He lives at 41 West Colliery Avenue.
In his youth, Kopp was a football player. performing with teams representing Tower City and Lykens and sometimes with a Shamokin outfit.
He is a great outdoorsman and is an ardent hunter and fisherman.
He is starting a kennel, raising various breeds of dogs, chihuahuas, fox terriers, manchesters, English bulldogs, collies, cocker spaniels and poodles.
He is married to the former Hattie Dressler, formerly of Sunbury. They have three children: Mrs. Ella Caldwell, Tower City; Mrs. Frank Chesitis, Elizabeth, New Jersey; and Leroy Kopp Jr., Elizabethville.
He is a member of the United Church of Christ, Tower City.

Leroy Kopp Retires As Chief of Police
Leroy Kopp, 41 West Colliery Street, Tower City, who has been chief of police since 23 August 1923, has announced his retirement, effective 1 October.
Chief Kopp handed in his resignation at a meeting of Borough Council on Monday night. Kopp, who was born 9 July 1897, said he was retiring because he had reached retirement age.
Mr. Kopp served on the local police force for about a year prior to his tenure as chief of police. Before that, he was employed in the blacksmith shop at Brookside Colliery near Tower City.
He is a lifelong resident of Tower City. In his youth, he was a football player, playing with teams at Tower City and Lykens and sometimes at Shamokin.
There is one other policeman on the Tower City police force, Patrolman Joseph Houtz, an extra, who works part-time.
Kopp is married to the former Hattie Dressler, formerly of Sunbury. They have three children: Mrs. Ella Caldwell, Tower City; Mrs. Frank Chesitis, Elizabethtown [sic], New Jersey; and Leroy Kopp Jr., Elizabeth [sic], New Jersey [sic].
