A 1963 photograph of the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Ira Rothermel and Sarah [Lehr] Rothermel.
Ira L “Boucher” Rothermel was born 29 July 1890 in Rebuck, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph Rothermel (1840-1904) and Sarah M. [Rebuck] Rothermel (1857-1893). Ira came to Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, about 1911 and worked in the mines. On 8 February 1913, he married Sarah E. Lehr. She was born 13 March 1890, a daughter of Daniel Lehr (1849-1889) and Mary [Maurer] Lehr (1848-1937). After marriage, Ira and Sarah established a dry goods business in Gratz.
In 1963, the couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the restaurant owned by their son, Robert “Gummy” Rothermel (1916-2001). That restaurant later became Reed’s Inn and today is known as Kissinger’s.
Ira Rothermel died in 1967 and Sarah [Lehr] Rothermel died in 1976.
