FORMER LYKENS MERCHANT DIED FRIDAY
Charles A. Hoff, age 75 years, retired hardware merchant, and former postmaster of Lykens, died at his home, Wellsville R. D., York County, on Friday.
Mr. Hoff, who was a graduate of Millersville State Normal School, taught school in York County and Middletown, before entering the hardware business in Middletown in 1895. Six years later he established a hardware store at Lykens and engaged in that business until 1923. He also served as Lykens postmaster for eleven years and had been a school director of that community twenty-three years. Mr. Hoff had also engaged in the cement block manufacturing business twenty-five years.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Effie B. Hoff; one daughter, Miss Madelene Hoff, a teacher in the Hershey schools, and five sons, Samuel Hoff, of Williamsport; Lt. Col. Henry Hoff, of the United States Public Health Service, Norfolk, Virginia; Charles Hoff Jr., at home; Bruce Hoff, of Summit, New Jersey. A brother, M. A. Hoff, of New Cumberland; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Private funeral services were held at 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, Rev. C. H. Heiges, pastor of the Shiremanstown Church of God officiated, and interment was made in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
