An undated photo of a roadside advertising sign for Wiest’s General Store and Restaurant which was located on the southeast corner of Center Street and South Street in Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It occupied the building Harry Smith built after the Great Gratz Fire of 1924. The heirs of Smith’s widow sold the building in 1942 and it was again sold in 1948. Eventually the property passed to Luther “Lutz” Wiest and his wife Kathryn Wiest, pictured above at the road sign with their granddaughter Karen. The Wiest’s operated the store and restaurant for a number of years until Luther died in 1975, after which the facility was sold. Today, it is a rental property.
