WILLIAMSTOWN MARINE KILLED AUG. 10th FIRST CASUALTY FROM THIS SECTION REPORTED IN KOREAN WAR
Cpl. John A. Shammo, 313 W. Market Street, Williamstown, has been killed in action in Korea. The telegram hearing the news was received by hi parents, Mr. and.Mrs. Harry Shammo, Monday evening.
Cpl. Shammo was a member of the First Marine Division and had last written to his family 1 August. According to the War Department telegram, Cpl. Shammo arrived in Korea 1 August and was killed 10 August. John was a 1948 graduate of Williamstown High School and entered the Marine Corps following graduation. He had spent 15 months on Guam and had been stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, prior to his sailing for Korea.
In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters, Laverne Shammo and Sandra Shammo.
