A photograph of the first employees of the Gratz Shirt Factory, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, taken on 14 March 1911.
This company was organized in 1910 and operated in a new building built that year on North Alley in Gratz, just behind the old Odd Fellows Hall. At the time, Gratz did not have electricity, so the machinery had to be operated by a steam engine. Harry T. Yoder was the first manager, and he operated the factory for about 10 years, following which he sold it to Oscar Clark and Roscoe Blyler.
Those pictured are:
Left to Right (standing, staggered): Della Saltzer; Jennie Clark; Grayce Ritzman; Ruth Pinkerton; Bertha Unger; Ella Witmer; Margaret Strayer; Edna Reed; Viola Wiest; Gertie Witmer; Lizzie Bowman; Sula Witmer; Carrie Umholtz; Stella Starr; Harry T. Yoder, manager.
