SUMNER S. BOWMAN
Sumner S. Bowman, age 87 years, died at his home in Millersburg, Monday evening. He was Dauphin County’s oldest attorney.
Mr. Bowman, who was a graduate of the Universtiy of Pennsylvania Law School, Philadelphia, practiced law in New York City seventeen years and served four years as deputy attorney general for the State of New York. During World War I he also served in the Judge Advocate General’s Department.
Earlier in life, Mr. Bowman was a pitcher with the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia National baseball teams.
He was a member of Grace Methodist Church and Steever R. Day American legion Post, Millersburg, a life member of the Sons of the American Revolution; Phi Delta Phi fraternity and the Alumni Association of the University of Pennsylvania.
Survivors are a son, Lt. Col. David W. Bowman, with the Army Signal Corps in Germany; a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Bowman, at home; two granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. Hanna Geary of Hanover, and three brothers, Robert Bowman, Edmund Bowman, and James Bowman, all of Millersburg.
Services will be held from the Sterner Funeral Home, Millersburg, at 2:00 o’clock this Thursday afternoon. Rev. Carl Anderson, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate and interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
