A 1943 photograph of the baseball team of the Boyer Memorial High School, Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. This was the only sports team fielded by the school in 1943, and the following explanation was given:
The Halifax High School has had very few sports for the last few years. This year there were several others discontinued because of gasoline rationing. The annual field day events were cancelled this year because the outside schools had no transportation.
The one and only sport that was continued this year was baseball. However, our boys were very unfortunate. Out of a total of six games played they won only one game. This fact can be accounted for by realizing the number of new players on the team this year. Nevertheless the boys showed good sportsmanship and enjoyed playing.
We hope many of the discontinued sports will be taken up again in the near future.
The individual players pictured were not identified, but a list of players on the team was provided with the photo:
Miller, 1B; Snyder, 2B; Bowman, P; Reed, 3B; R. Hoffman, C; F. Hoffman, CF; Neff, LF; L. Cooper, SS; J. Cooper, 2B; Matter, RF; Lebo, OF; Enders, OF.
