A corner cut from an envelope bearing a stamp identified as Scott Type A21, issued in 1857, and a 6 May 1858 circular date stamp/cancel of the Lykens Post Office, Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The “6” was most likely applied by the postmaster with pen and ink.
The price of postage was pre-paid with the purchase of the three cent stamp bearing the portrait of George Washington. The letter was addressed to Harrisburg.
