FUNERAL SUNDAY FOR QUARRY SLIDE VICTIM
Funeral services for Harry D. Engle Jr., 27, of Klingerstown, who lost his life when caught in a slide of earth and rocks at the Meckley Limestone Quarry near Mandata last Wednesday morning, were held from the Rothermel Funeral Home, Herndon, at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Further services were held in Klinger’s Church at Erdman, with the Rev. J. M. Singer, pastor of the Herndon Reformed Charge officiating and interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
The slide occurred about 3 o’clock Wednesday morning and rescue operations were started immediately. Engle’s body was recovered about 8 o’clock the following evening.
Engle, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry D. Engle, served in the Army more than three years during World War II and had bee employed at the quarry the past year.
He was a member of the Urban Reformed Church, the American Legion and Herndon Fire Company.
Survivors are his parents, his wife, Mrs. Betty [Klinger] Engle, two sisters and two brothers, Miss Percita Engle and Mrs. Mark Hollenbach, of Herndon; Martin A. Engle of Sunbury, and Edward Engle, at home.
