Lykens — Ralph Dieter, 31, second officer in the merchant marine, has been reported missing in action. Mrs. Emma Umholtz, his mother, was notified yesterday by the Coast Guard.

Lykens Man Missing, Mother Informed
Lykens — Mrs. Emma Umholtz, South Second Street, was informed that her son, Second Officer Ralph Dieter, 31, is missing and presumed lost in action.
The telegram was signed by Vice Admiral R. R. Walsche, Commander, Coast Guard. He served with the Merchant Marine for eleven years.

Lykens Man Reported Missing in Action
Believed lost in action, Second Officer Ralph Dieter, 31, a Merchant Marine officer, was reported missing by a telegram from the Vice Admiral R. R. Walsche, Commander, Coast Guard, to his mother, Mrs. Emma Umholtz, South Second Street, Lykens. Dieter served in the Merchant Marine for more than eleven years.

Ralph V. Dieter, Lykens, a merchant marine, who died at sea 1 January 1943, left a $250 estate, according to an estimate filed when letters were issued to Gerald W. Dieter, Hollidaysburg. His mother, Emma Umholtz, Lykens, is the sole heir.

Letters of administration were granted in the Courthouse today to Gerald W. Dieter, Lykens, in the small estate of Ralph V. Dieter, late of Lykens, who was lost at sea while with the United States Merchant Marine, 1 January 1943. His mother, Mrs. Emma Umholtz, is sole heir.
