Wiconisco Man Reported Missing in Philippines
WICONISCO — Private Richard Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones, has been reported as “missing in action” in the Philippines.
Private Jones served in the Army for the past five years and served his first enlistment in the Hawaiian Islands. While stationed in Honolulu he married an English girl. After being sent back to the United States in 1940 Jones again enlisted, this time for service in the Philippines. He attended the Wiconisco High School and is a member of the Wiconisco Baptist Church.

Wiconisco Man ‘Lost in Action’
Parents Get Word, Private Richard Jones Is “Missing” in War Zone
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones, Wiconisco, have been notified by the War Department that their son, Private Richard L. Jones, has been “missing in action” following the fall of the Phillippines.
Private Jones served his first enlistment in Hawaii. While in Honolulu he married an English girl. Sent back to the United States in 1940 he enlisted for service in the Philippines.
He attended the Wiconisco High School and was a member of the Wiconisco Baptist Church.

Report Death of Wiconisco Soldier in Jap Prison Camp
Pvt. Richard L. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones, of Wiconisco, has died as a prisoner of war in a Japanese prison camp according to information received by the War Department through the International red Cross.
Pvt. Jones was a graduate of Wiconisco High School and had served an enlistment in the Army prior to the outbreak of war. Shortly after his return to the United States in 1940 he re-enlisted for service in the Philippine Islands. He was reported missing in action 7 June 1942 following the fall of the Philippines.
He is survived by his wife, his parents; six sisters, Mrs. Ida [Jones] O’Brien, of Williamstown; Mrs. David Sheivkahood, of Detroit, Michigan; Rose Jones, at home; Leah Jones, at home; Amelia Jones, at home; and Anna Jones, at home; and two brothers James Jones and Daniel Jones.
