A copy of the last news article found telling of Bartel Schade, a former band director at Hegins Township High School, Hegins Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The article appeared in the Pottsville Republican, 27 July 1955. Did Bartel Schade die on this last visit to his homeland? Can any blog reader answer this question?

Former Hegins Township Teacher Sails for Visit In Germany
Bartel Schade left Tuesday for a visit in Germany. A former teacher of instrumental music at Hegins Township High School, Schade’s home is now in Newark, New Jersey.
While in Germany he will conduct the band in which he played 37 years ago, in a series of concerts. During his overseas visit he will be located in Bad Nauheim.
Schade played in the Berlin Symphony Orchestra before coming to this country. Following his arrival in the United States he played for a time with the orchestra at the old Hippodrome Theatre in Pottsville, then went to the Hegins Valley. Under Schade’s direction, the Hegins Township Band won the county championship for three consecutive years in the 1930 era. In 1934 the band won the state championship for Class C high school bands.
Hegins Township was among the first schools in Schuylkill County to give systematic instruction in instrumental music to all pupils from fourth grade up.
