Henry “Harry” Herman, farmer, Washington Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, was born in Mifflin Township, now Washington Township, Dauphin County, 7 November 1833, son of John Herman and Rebecca [Heller] Herman.
The father, John Herman, was first married to Susan Heller, and their children are:
Mary Herman, deceased;
Josiah Herman; and
Sarah Herman.
He next married Rebecca Heller, and their children are:
Harry Herman; and
Mary Herman.
He next married Rebecca Keener, daughter of John Keener, widow of Michael Matter, and their children are:
John Herman;
Rebecca Herman;
Thomas Herman;
Michael Herman; and
Jacob Heller.
Lastly he married Lavina Dubendorf, widow of Charles Matter, and their children are:
Frances Ann Herman;
Samuel Herman; and
Lavina Herman.
The father, John Herman, then moved to Clinton County, Pennsylvania, in1876, and died near Lock Haven. His last wife survives him.
Henry “Harry” Herman attended the subscription schools of his native township and remained on the home farm until his marriage, after which he located on one of the farms of his wife’s father and which came to him through marriage. If consists of one hundred and thirty three acres. He owns another farm of one hundred and sixty-two acres and also one-half interest in the grist mill with Nathaniel Miller. He was married in Mifflin Township in 1854, to Miss Mary Koppenheffer. Their children are:
Mary Elizabeth Herman, wife of Henry P. Hartman;
John Milton Herman, twin;
Simon A, Herman, twin;
Laura Herman, widow of George Hartman;
Harry Thomas Herman, farmer, in Washington Township;
Ida Rebecca Herman, maiden lady; and
Michael H. Herman, at home.
Mr. Henry “Harry” Herman is a Republican in his political views and has been supervisor of the township. He is a member of the Lutheran church.
