HALIFAX TOWNSHIP
Pennsylvania warrantee maps show original land grants including the name of the original warrantee and patentee; number of acres; the name of the tract (if named); dates of warrant, survey and patent; and the book location of recorded warrant and patent.
Warrantee maps for specific townships in Dauphin County can be found at the Pennsylvania Archives, on-line. The picture of the Halifax Township map shown above cannot be enlarged, but by going to the archives web site, a read-only “pdf” copy can be opened. Specific sections of the map can enlarged and “cut” with with a screen capture or snipping tool. The entire map in print form is available for sale by the Pennsylvania Archives.
A patent is an official deed to the land. Many warrants changed hands before they were patented and some of the original owners died before they could apply for their patent. Original patent information as well as subsequent deeds issued are located at the Dauphin County Courthouse
