An undated portrait photograph of Minnie Amanda [Coleman] Riegle (1880-1958), who was born near Gratz, in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 21 December 1880, the daughter of John C. Coleman (1852-1933) and Amanda Louisa [Snyder} Coleman (1854-1951). Minnie’s father was a direct descendant of some of the early pioneer families of the Lykens Valley, including Coleman, Klinger, Stein, Lamm and Kauffman.
On 25 February 1899 at Simeon Lutheran Church in Gratz, Minnie married Charles Gerome Riegle (1876-1913). With him she had four children:
- Evelyn Beatrice Riegle (1900-1969), who married Paul V. Lenhart (1896-1959), and with him had four known children.
- Warren Coleman Riegle (1903-1982), who married Dorothy O’Neill McMurray (1908-1990), and with her had two known children.
- Hannah Louisa Riegle (1904-1977), who married Lawrence McMillan (1907-1957), and had no issue.
- Lucy Viola Riegle (1907-1994), who married William John Budd (1905-1978), and had one known child.
On 19 March 1913, Minnie [Coleman] Riegle became a widow as a result of an accident at Short Mountain Colliery, Lykens. The four children who lost their father on that day, were aged 6 to 13.
On 5 September 1940, Minnie [Coleman] Riegle married Frank VanGelder (1875-1951) at Buffalo, New York. After his death, Minnie moved back to the Lykens Valley, where she died in Williamstown, Dauphin County, Pennslvania, 4 August 1958.
