Rev. Joseph Hillpot served as minister of Simeon Lutheran Church, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 1881-1889.
Joseph Hillpot was born on 27 December 1835, in Tinicum, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a son of Samuel S. Hillpot and Eva [Trauger] Hillpot. He attended the Normal and Classical school at Quakertown, and graduated in 1865 from Pennsylvania College in Gettysburg.
Rev. Hillpot studied theology at the Philadelphia Seminar and was ordained in 1867 by the Susquehanna Synod. He was married twice: first to E. A. B. Wambold of Philadelphia, 1866; and, after her death to Sarah E. Dubbs of Allentown.
Rev. Hillpot began his ministry in Gratz on 31 July 1881 and remained until 24 April 1889.
While Rev. Hillpot was serving in this charge, improvements were made to Simeon’s church building.
Rev. Hillpot died at Quakertown, Pennsylvania, on 30 October 1896, of Bright’s disease at the age of 60 years, 10 month, and 3 days.
