The following news briefs were published in the “Gratz News” section of a local newspaper, for the week of 20 April 1927:
There are ten race horses on the fair ground at present being trained for the coming Fairs.
Miss Edna Blyler, of Tremont, called on her mother, Mrs. Lizzie Blyler over the week end.
The following visited at the home of Dr. W. E. Lebo and family during the Easter recess. Mrs. H. P. Blyler, of Philadelphia; Miss Gertrude Lebo, of Hummelstown, Mr. and Mrs. John Kratzer, of Elizabethville and Ellerslie Lebo, a student in Ministry at the Seminary in Philadelphia.
The Rev. Artz, of Elizabethville, Calvin Miller and family, of Valley View; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schadle and Andrew Riegle, of Spring Glen, were entertained at the home of Harry Miller and family, Easter.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hartman, of Millersburg, attended the Holy Communion here, Sunday.
Miss Verna Kissinger and her brother Clarence Kissinger, of Wiconisco spent Good Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Blair Schminky.
Miss Ethel Smith and friend Mr. Stanley, of Lykens, spent Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Buffington and family.
The following from Lykens attended the Lutheran Communion in town, Sunday; Mr. and Mrs. John Kissinger and children; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Coleman and daughter Esther Coleman, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Klinger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Daniels and child, Mrs. Richard Klinger, Mrs. John Hoffman and Mrs. Roger Ritenbagh.
Miss Mary Zerfing, of Harrisburg, spent the Easter with her father, Charles Zerfing and family.
C. U. Kratzer and family attended the wedding of their son Albert Kratzer, who was married to Miss Violet Starr of Herndon. A splendid wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride at Herndon Easter Sunday.
Jonathan Buffington and sons of Hegins, were seen in town, Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. David Morgan and sons, Mrs. Elizabeth Kemble and son, of Donaldson were Sunday visitors at the home of Jacob Witmer and family.
Milton Umholtz and family and grandson Elwood Witmer called on the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Umholtz and family at Lykens, Sunday evening..
Miss Marie Buffington, of Harrisburg, was entertained at her home on Easter and was accompanied by Mr. Wallis of Oklahoma.
Miss Ethel Smith returned to Susquehanna University at Selinsgrove, after having spent a week’s vacation with her mother, Mrs. Carrie Smith and family.
Mr. and Mrs. William Auman, of Sunbury, called at the home of George Hepler and family, Saturday: Mrs. Amanda Hepler, Mrs. Harry Smeltzer and daughter Mildred Smeltzer, of Harrisburg.
Dr. Downing, of Trenton, New Jersey, is spending the week with his wife and child, who are residing at the home of her mother, Mrs. Lizzie Blyler at present.
Clarence Portzline and family, of York, spent their Easter with both their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Fidler and Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Bowers and family, here.
Mrs. Henry Bowers and daughter Helen Bowers, Mrs. Annie Hopple and Miss Maggie Clark made a shopping trip to Sunbury, Saturday. Mr. R. E. Blyler accompanied them as their chauffeur on the trip.
