FRIEDENS CHURCH FORMS OWN PARISH AT HEGINS (1957)
Pottsville Lutheran Conference has granted permission to Friedens Lutheran Church of Hegins to withdraw from the Hegins Parish and form its own parish.
Rev. Robert C. Benner, Pine Grove, Conference President, presided at the special meeting at which this decision was made.
Rev. William Marburger, Orwigsburg, Chairman of the Parish Boundaries Committee, read this recommendation of his committee: “We recommend that the request of Friedens Lutheran Church of the Hegins Parish to withdraw from the parish and to form a parish of its own, be granted.” A unanimous “Yes” was voted by the Conference.
The Hegins Parish formerly consisted of three congregations – Christ, Fountain; St. John’s, Barry Township; and Hegins.
Today the Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins, stands as a parish with Rev. Frederick G. Erb Jr., serving as pastor. He was called as pastor of the Hegins Parish in 1954 and has remained in Hegins since that time. He is married and has three children.
