A undated photograph of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Williamtown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The following historical information came with the photo.
The Seybert Evangelical Church had the distinction of being the first church in town. Its role in the religious development of the community is unique because all denominations held services there. They paid a token of $1.00 a service to the Evangelical Association.
The Church was erected 1869-1870.
For almost two years they were with the United Methodist Church, Rev. Saxman, having the care of the three congregations. The merger was completed April, 1971. The doors were closed and the building sold.
The United Brethren in Christ Congregation was organized in 1867 by Rev. Simon Noll. A church was soon established. Although many members regretted the passing of their church, they later joined the membership of the United Methodist Church. Christianity prevailed. The merger was completed in April 1971 just three months before the 100th birthday. Today, there is is a good feeling among the combined membership.
