This panoramic view of the Short Mountain Colliery, Lykens Valley Coal Company, Bear Gap, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, was taken on 26 August 1921 from Short Mountain, looking east, and shows the nearly completed Lykens Power Plant (at left) and the pulverizing mill that processed the fuel for the plant and the conveyor structure that moved the fuel to the plant. At right is the spray pond used to cool water from the power plant.
Rising in the left rear is Big Lick Mountain and the mound on the right side of the slope is coal refuse that was dumped there over the years.
