An undated photograph of a picnic of Pine Grove area residents that was held at Berger’s Ball Field in Pleasant Valley, near Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
One respondent who gave information about this photo indicated that this was the baseball “team” that played that day and the group was from a Pine Grove Sunday School. The picnic and ball game took place on August 3, 1916, and the two teams that played identified themselves as the “County Rubes” and the “City Dudes.”
Two players, pictured in the back, were Levi Fidler and Hampton Haldeman.
The tall man at the far upper right was Charlie Ammons, who was not a player, but acted as the water boy or bat boy. He was an employee of the Gensemer Tannery.
