WICONISCO MINER DIES OF INJURIES IN CULM SLIDE
Joseph Stine, Father of Three Children, Killed in Mine
Joseph Stine, 45, Wiconisco miner who was enveloped by a slide of culm at the washery in Wiconisco of the Susquehanna Coal Company Tuesday morning, died today at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Stine is the father of three children. His widow is in poor health.
Officials at the coal company said today that Stine was injured when he attempted to dig out a piece of scrap at the bottom of a bank of culm. The slide started and before Stine could heed the warning shouted by his fellow workers he was caught by the sliding bank. Stine was also engaged in the junk business.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. The coroner will make an investigation.
