An example of a censored letter/cover sent by a World War II soldier to his brother in Herndon, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
The sender was t/5 Curtis L. Grimm, 33492272, 134th Signal Co., A.P.O. 730. C.O. Postmaster, Seattle, Washington. A.P.O. 730 was the service designation for Kiska Island, Alaska.
The letter was sent through the U. S. Army Postal Service (A. P. O.), on November 3, 1943 (upper right) at no cost to the serviceman (upper right, “Free”).
On the lower left is the censor’s mark indicating that the letter was “Passed” by “Examiner” 62801.
The recipient were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grimm, Herndon [Northumberland County], Pennsylvania. Clarence was the brother of Curtis.
Unfortunately, the letter was separated from the envelope and is not available at this time.
