Rev. Henry S. Bassler served as minister of David’s Church, Killinger, Dauphin County, from 1864 to 1865 [during the Civil War].

Rev. Henry S. Bassler was born in Lower Milford, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, August 11, 1864. For four years, Mr. Bassler studied under Rev. William J. Dechant and then made a missionary journey to the southern states, riding from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to Guildford, North Carolina, on horseback, a distance of more than seven hundred miles. He returned to Pennsylvania, after one year and entered the Theological Seminary located at Carlisle.
He served at Hilltown, and Boyertown, and went from Boyertown to Killinger, where he stayed for about 9 years. From Killinger he went to Millerstown, and then returned to Killinger again. He closed his pastorate in Hegins. In 1877 he moved to Millersburg and retired, laying down his burden in 1883.
