Four 1971 photographs of an arrival at the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Terminal Building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first three photos are of a train moving south toward the train shed and the fourth photo is of the conductors on the platform standing next to the train that arrived, with a view to the north outside the train shed.
Travelers between Philadelphia and Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania once began or ended their journey here, but by 1971, there was no Reading Railroad service to Lykens, so Lykens Valley rail riders had to drive or take a bus to Pottsville, where diesel-car rail service was provided to Philadelphia. In 1981, the Philadelphia to Pottsville line was abandoned.
Note: Lykens was for a time the terminal on one of the Reading Railroad lines coming out of Philadelphia.
