A representation of the Mansion on the Hill, Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, produced on a wood block by Hometowne Collectibles for the Halifax Area Historical Society.
On the back of the block is the following description of the mansion:
THE MANSION ON THE HILL
The “Mansion on the Hill” was built in the 1700s with bricks made on the site with clay found on the farm. John Meetch is believed to be the original owner. The house contains 16 rooms with 11 fireplaces. There are 5 stone cupboards in the basement.
In 1863, Abraham Lincoln visited the house, owned at that time by Col. James Freeland. Other owners included the Vallerchamps and the Hoffmans. Currently [2006] it is owned by the Michael Bower family.
This was part of a series of small block collectibles sponsored by the Halifax Area Historical Society. For information on the availability of this item and other items in the series, contact the society through its Facebook page.
