An item from the Williamstown Times, July 16, 1970, from the “A Few Years Back” column about an incident that occurred in the Edward’s Hotel around March 8, 1912:
Constable Evans and Reisig escorted a quartet of foreigners to the County Jail, Monday, following a fierce encounter in Edward’s Hotel, where knives, iron buckets, meat saws and other implements of war were pressed into service, in a fight which came near ending the life of one and left others with deep gashes about their bodies. The men are said to have quarreled at Tower City over cards and the disgraceful scene, Monday, was a renewal of the old conflict.

Sounds like the “Old West” here in Williamstown! Those card games must have have been pretty dangerous! The Edward’s Hotel I believe was on Market Street where the Mae Edwards Drugstore was. This is taken from the “March 8, 1912 A Few Years Back… Article” the July 16th, 1970 issue of the Williamstown Times. Posted by Penny.
One comment followed identifying Constable Evans as his Great Grandfather, John D. Evans.
Attempts to find out more about this incident came up short. Nothing was found in the Harrisburg, Lykens or Tower City newspapers.
