A photograph of the Pennsylvania Railroad’s water tower at Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The tower was located in the railroad yard to the east of the passenger station. It is believed that photo is of the original pre-Civil War water tower. The base is of the same stone construction as that of the other buildings at the site, e.g., the blacksmith shop and engine house, that appear on a pre-Civil War map of Lykens. This water tower can also be seen in the background of photos of the railroad station and yard buildings.
This photograph was taken as part of the Interstate Commerce Commission’s survey of railroad structures in 1916.
