The West Schuylkill Herald, December 16, 1960, reported the following about Dr. Harold E. Machamer, a native of Tower City, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania:
Dr. H. E. Machamer, 436 McKinley Road, Grosse Point Farms, has been appointer assistant director of microbiological research for Parke, Davis and Company.
Dr. F. D. Stewart, director of microbiological research, said that Dr. Machamer in his new position will help coordinate and direct the world-wide pharmaceutical firm’s antibiotic research program, including development, biochemistry and microbiology.
A native of Tower City, Dr. Machamer received his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees from Pennsylvania State University in 1942, 1948 and 1950 respectively. He joined Parke-Davis as a research microbiologist in 1952, and in 1954 was appointed laboratory director in antibiotic development, a position he held until his present promotion.
