Photographs of the inside and outside of Geist’s Store and Tavern, Leck Kill, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. The top photo, taken in 1992, features, left to right, Shirley Geist, who began serving as postmaster in 1973, Mary Geist, who served as postmaster from 1947 to 1973, and Paul Geist, owner-operator of Geist’s Store and Tavern, where the post office was located. The bottom photo, also taken in 1992, shows the outside of the store and the U. S. flag indicating that the post office was located there. Both photos illustrated an article titled, “Leck Kill Post Office Operating 120 Years,” which appeared in the Citizen-Standard, Valley View, July 31, 1992.

LECK KILL –The Leck Kill Post Office has operated from the same location since it was started in 1872.
Located inside Geist’s Store, the post office takes up just a tiny corner, similar to what is found down the road at Drumheller’s in Rebuck.
Greenbriar once had its own post office, and there was the Line Mountain Post Office near the Northumberland-Schuylkill County line between Leck Kill and Pitman. Greenbriar’s operated at least until the 1930s and the Line Mountain Post Office closed in 1932.
The entire Schwaben Creek Valley once had six post offices in operation beginning at Red Cross and heading east to Pitman. They were set up to be three miles away from each other.
Following is a list of postmasters at Leck Kill and the year they started:
Emanuel H. Geist, 1872
John H. Geist, 1883
Tobias Diehl, 1887
Samuel Herrick, 1891
Daniel S. Leitzel, 1901
William O. Snyder, 1912
Lewis E. Reitz, 1920
Mary L. Geist, 1947
Shirley L. Geist, 1973
