A colorized version of a black and white photograph taken in the 1990s of a house on Lot 16, West Market Street, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The house that is pictured above was said to be built about 1836 for Elizabeth Fry Shindel. One of the tenants who it is believed lived here just before the Civil War, was Theodore Gratz, the first burgess (or mayor) of Gratz. The barn, not pictured, was built before 1858.

Two colorized views of the old log house that was also on this lot and dated to about 1820. When Lot 16 and its improvements were sold at auction in 1974, the new owner could not come to an agreement with the neighbor on the west side (Lot 14) as to what to do with the log house because it straddled the property line. The new owner was left with no choice but to dismantle the log house.
