A colorized version of an undated photo that appeared in the “Down Memory Lane” feature of the Pine Grove Press Herald, September 30, 1971.
The sign on the building behind Engine #1218 indicates that the building belonged to a manufacturing company that made patterns.
When the photo appeared, the caption stated:
Any old railroaders around who can identify these men? can anyone tell where the picture was taken? What is the building in the background?
A response appeared in the newspaper of October 7, 1971:
Diverse Opinions: Three Press Herald readers came up with guesses on the identities of men on the railroad picture used in our “Down Memory Lane” feature last week. Mrs. Alma Kehler of Tremont thinks the third man from left, standing in front of the engine, resembles her uncle, the late Harry Moody…. Mrs. Eva Kramer of Legion Acres, Pine Grove, believes that the man on the left, standing on the railroad tie, is the late Milt Krammes, and front row, right, she believes is the late James Krammes…. Still another opinion came from Bill Derr of Tremont. he believes the picture of the engine and the railroad crew was taken in the Cressona Yards and that the man standing at the extreme left is the late Francis Jennings. We suspect it would take someone of Bert Hoff‘s vintage to straighten out this situation. How about it, Bert?
