An undated photograph showing two young men (or boys) “skinny dipping” in the water near Tumbling Run, Pottsville, Schuylkill County.
The photo, which is from the Schuylkill County Historical Society, was published in the “Looking Back” feature of the Pottsville Republican, June 17, 1978. A better copy of the photo can be obtained from the historical society.
The text is by Joseph M. Hanney, who was the vice president of the society.
Tumbling Run will never be forgotten in the entertainment annals of Schuylkill County. “Skinny-dipping,” as the kids called it in their mud-holes and small valley streams, was debatedly safe in the middle of the dam, and off a steam launch. As the century turned, people came by trolley cars from all distances to enjoy the resort’s rides. picnicking, shows, boating, parties in privately owned homes-away-from-home along the shore line, or just plain leisurely resting under the afternoon’s sun.
