MARY B. BOEDDE – Millinery and Notions
It is interesting to note that Lykens has a number of ladies engaged in commercial pursuits that have been as successful and are in every way as enterprising as the men. Probably none of these have been more successful than Miss Mary B. Boedde, whose millinery parlor on Main Street, west of Market, is regarded as the millinery headquarters for this entire section of the valley. Miss Boedde’s success has been steady in growth and well earned. She established the business here in 1884, and in addition to a complete line of latest style shapes, ribbons, wings and millinery accessories, she carries a heavy stock of dress trimmings, laces and embroideries, novelties and ladies’ furnishings, all latest infants’ wear, shirt waists, corsets, etc. Of her millinery creations it is but justice to state they always have a distinctiveness about the, that cannot be copied. Miss Boedde is a designer of much taste, tact and original ideas, which, together with the excellent judgment and business ability she has demonstrated herself to possess, has placed her in line with the most progressive and successful business people of Lykens. She is constantly adding new fixtures and other conveniences what will enable her to better serve the requirements of her many patrons and make the facilities of her store second to none of its kind in the borough.
