W. H. KISSINGER & COMPANY – General Merchandise
Probably no commercial convenience in the Lykens Valley is more representative of that branch of trade by which its energies are devoted that the one conducted by Kissinger & Company, in Wiconisco. It is the largest, most modern and best equipped store in the town, and is justly entitled to a leading position among representative establishments. The stock carried is exceptionally heavy and comprehensive, embracing everything in the general merchandise line, such as dry goods and dress materials, groceries and provisions, clothing, furnishings for men and women, rugs, shoes, bedding, novelties, souvenir post cards; in fact everything usually found in a modern, up-to-date department store. The concern has for many years transacted a trade indicating a growing prosperity, and especially since 1899 has it developed a patronage placing it in the front ranks of Wiconisco and Lykens‘ leading sources of home supply. The present firm was organized in 1904, succeeding Kimmel & Company, and is composed of W. H. Kissinger, L. K. Diefenderfer and Isaac Mossop. The present fine, modern brick building was erected after the fire three years ago, and at the present time, Mr. Kissinger is erecting a splendid home adjoining it which will contain all modern conveniences. Mr. Kissinger began his early life with the concern as driver of the delivery wagon, and with the exception of a few years when he was away, has devoted his life to the up-building of the present model establishment, finally becoming the senior member of the firm and the leading spirit in its success. Few business men here today enjoy a higher standing in commercial circles than Mr. Kissinger. He has grown up with the town, and as a commercial factor he readily occupies first place, being classed as the leader among Wiconisco‘s successful dealers.
