An aerial or birds-eye photograph of Westwood Colliery, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, that was published in the Pine Grove Press Herald, December 23, 1976, along with the following story:
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Nelson of 277 Main Street, Keffers, had quite an experience while remodeling a room with paneling in their home last Wednesday. Located in the room was a section of wall containing a nail rack that swas used for hanging clothing. A section of this rack was mounted on 2 x 4’s which protruded into the room and interfered with the paneling. They decided that this section could easily be removed and, when the proceeded to do so, they discovered it was actually a section of wall placed against the original room wall and on the reverse side of the section was the beaugtifully preserved 5′ x 7′ framed picture of Westwood Colliery…. One of the neighbors who was familiar with this area said it is an excellent aerial view of Westwood when it was in production and appears to have been taken in the late 1930s. The Nelson property was formerly a “company” house, but they have no clue as to who took the picture or how it came to be placed in their house.
