At the left side of the building is the Tower City Post Office. In front of the building (at left) is the stage coach that operated between Tower City and Lykens, Dauphin County.
The following information was provided about this hotel for the 1968 centennial celebration:
In 1870-1871, Charlemagne Tower erected the Tower City House onn the north side of Grand Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street. It was a large establishment containing rooms for lidgers, a large dining room, store and post office. It was long operated by Henry K. Updegrave succeeded by Pierce Maher, his son-in-law, and Morris Updegrave, the last owner and operator. The building was razed in 1945.
