An undated photograph of the Lehigh Valley Railroad station at Centralia, Columbia County, Pennsylvania.
Centralia is located less than two miles north of Ashland, Schuylkill County. About three miles to the west is Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, and about the same distance to the east is Girardville, Schuylkill County.
Today, Centralia is a ghost town due to an out-of-control mine fire that started in 1962 directly under the town.
The photo appeared as part of the “Looking Back” feature of the Pottsville Republican & Herald, May 13, 2007.
