A photograph taken in the early 1930s of the Shady Oaks Golf Course, Market Street to Broad Street, Williams Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The property was inherited by George E. Davis, Thomas B. Davis the druggist’s nephew. In 1930 he built the miniature golf course known as Shady Oaks, the only one of its kind in the area. It extended from Market Street, north to the alley below Broad Street. In 1932, when the Williamstown Junior-Senior High School was built, the road to the school (Julian Street) was put through the golf course, thereby limiting the size of the course.
The stock market crash of the early 1930s brought most luxuries to an end, including the playing of golf and the golf course.
