PROPOSED NEW BUILDING FOR LOCAL FIRE COMPANY
Plans for the proposed new fire house for the Reliance Hose Company, town, were approved at a recent meeting of the company.
The proposed building, of cement block construction, 66×80 feet, would be erected on the site of the present fire house on South Market Street.
The ground floor of the one-story structure would include an engine room, an auditorium, 40×60 feet, and storage, recreation, cloak and rest rooms. The auditorium area is also to include a kitchen.
The basement would contain three rooms, in addition to the furnace room.
Bids for the proposed building are to be opened at a meeting of the company Friday, August 22 [1958] at 8:00 p.m.
The Elizabethville Bicentennial Book notes that the company contracted Albert Rowe and John Rowe to construct the new building which was completed in August 1960 and housed two fire trucks and an ambulance. This building served Elizabethville until 1991 when it was decided to build a larger fire house on West Main Street. That fire house, completed in March 1992, has six fire apparatus bays and two ambulance bays, in addition to office, storage, and recreational space.
