The front and back of a cover/envelope mailed from Millersburg Post Office, Millersburg, Dauphin County, May 22, 1893, at 8 A. M. The sender was Conemaugh Soft Coal and recipient was the Munster Coal Company, P. O. Box 6, Altoona, Pennsylvania. The post office in Altoona received the letter at 4 P. M. the same day.
The Conemaugh Soft Coal company attempted to establish offices in the anthracite region in the latter part of the 19th Century. It is not known at this writing if there was an attempt to establish an office in Millersburg or one had already been established. Information on the recipient is also lacking at this time.
The stamp on this cover is a one cent commemorative from a series issued for the Columbian Exposition of 1892. It is affixed to a pre-stamped commemorative envelope (postal stationery) issued for the same event.
There might be an interesting story about this cover but that would certainly require additional research.
