HEAD OF ORTHODOX CHURCH COMING HERE
Thanksgiving day will be a red letter day in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church at this place [Lykens], when services will be held celebrating the tenth anniversary of the church; dedication of the parsonage and blessing the new lot recently acquired for a parochial home.
The Head of the American Orthodox Church, the Most Right Rev. Metropolitan Platon with fifteen clergy from this diocese will be in attendance and take part in the celebration.
This will be the first visit Lykens was paid by the Highest head of the Orthodox Church in America. The Most Right Rev. Metropolitan Platon is now on his second visit to America from Kursk, Russia. He first came to this country as an Archbishop and served the church from 1907 to 1913. He returned to Russia and returned to America again in 1922 as Metropolitan, which is the head of the Orthodox Church of America.
Celebration of the services will begin at 10:00 A. M. with Divine Liturgy. It is expected that many Russian people from the surrounding communities will be in attendance. All Christian feeling men and women of Lykens and Wiconisco are most cordially invited to attend by the Rev. John Zitinsky, rector of the church.
Following the services in the church, a Thanksgiving lunch and bazaar will be held in the church basement.
