A photograph of the Lykens School as it appeared in 1990. At that time, the building was no longer used as a school and the students from Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, attended the Upper Dauphin Area Schools located in Loyalton and Elizabethville.
According to information in Elizabethville Bicentennial History, published in 2017 and available through the Elizabethville Area Historical Society, the school in Lykens was closed in 1990 when the elementary school was completed in Loyalton and the four elementary schools of the Upper Dauphin Area School District, including Lykens, were either disposed of by public auction or returned to the communities in which they were located for $1.00.

This historical photo appeared in the Citizen Standard (Valley View), Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania) September 28, 1990, as a part of a feature, “Know Your Hometown.” The photograph was attributed to Wendy Chubb.
Why can I not find out what it cost to demolish the old Lykens Elementary School? Isn’t this supposed to be public information?
