A photo post card from about 1905 of two Specktown teens playing Civil War soldiers with their father’s and grandfather’s military weapons.
Identified are (left to right):
Norman Riegle (1886-1942); Edward Evitts (1888-1959).
Norman Riegle‘s father was Harrison Riegle (1840-1899) who served as a Private and Musician in the 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry, Company G, in the Civil War. Edward Evitts‘ grandfather was Benjamin J. Evitts (1822-1909), who was Captain of the 177th Pennsylvania Infantry, Company I. Edward is wearing a medal that may indicate membership in the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), Kissinger Post in Gratz.
The photograph was taken on the front porch of the Evitts’ home in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Norman Riegle was a next door neighbor.
