A photo post card from about 1909 believed to be of the extended family of Lydia A. [Helt] Riegle (1883-1942), of Washington Township and Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Lydia is identified as the woman in white standing at the railing and holding the spindle with her left hand. Behind her is her husband, Norman L. Riegle of Specktown.
Standing in front of the porch are Mora “Nora” Row of Lykens Township and Helen Hoffman, of Specktown, the niece of Norman Riegle. No other persons in the photo have been identified.
Help is requested in identifying the others.
It is possible that this group is gathered to celebrate the wedding of Lydia Helt and Norman Riegle, who were married on 10 September 1909 at the Ebenezer Church in Elizabethville, and is is possible that this photo was taken at a Helt home in Lykens or Elizabethville.
In the 1910 census, Norman and Lydia were living in Lykens, where he was working as a laborer in a furniture store – probably the same furniture store owned by Lydia’s brother James Helt, who also was an undertaker in Lykens in 1910. Later, after completing a course of study to be an undertaker, Norman and Lydia moved to Robesonia where he opened his own business.
