FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY FOR JAMES HOFFNER
James F. Hoffner, age 61 years, widely known business man, died at his home, West Main Street, Friday afternoon, following a heart attack.
He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffner and had resided in this community [Elizabethville] most of his life.
Mr. Hoffner was identified with the business life of this community many years. He was formerly engaged in the retail meat business and had conducted a store more than twenty-five years. He was tax collector of the borough more than twenty-two years, and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death.
A member of the Salem Lutheran Church, of town, he was Superintendent of the Sunday School, a director of the Maple Grove Cemetery Association, and treasurer of the Lykens Valley United Brethren Campmeeting Association. He was also affiliated with the Modern Woodmen and Odd Fellows lodges.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Lizzie [Lyme[ Hoffner; two daughers, Mrs. Marlin Kugle of Middletown, and Mrs. Russell Peters, Elizabethville; five sons, Arthur J. Hoffner, of Penbrook; Russell L. Hoffner, Thurman N. Hoffner, Arnold W. Hoffner, and Robert E. Hoffner, all of Elizabethville; and eleven grandchildren.
Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Paul Lehr, of Elizabethville; and four brothers, Harry Hoffner, of Sacramento; Harvey Hoffner and Cleveland Hoffner of Elizabethville; and John Hoffner, and Millersburg.
Funeral services were held from the residence at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning. Rev. W. Z. Artz, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, town, officiated, and interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery.
