FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MILLERSBURG SOLDIER
Funeral services for Pvt. Elwood M. Kitner, 23, who was killed when run over by a truck on the highway near Dalmatia early last Thursday morning, were held from the Riegel Funeral Home, Millersburg, at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
State Police of the Shamokin sub-station, who investigated, said the truck was operated by R. Fred Russell, Mandata. Russell told police he saw the young man lying in the road too late to avoid hitting him. Dr. Stanley Kallaway, Northumberland County Coroner stated that death was due to a broken neck, crushed chest and other injuries.
Pvt. Kitner was stationed with the Army at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, and was home on leave. He had served thirty-two months with the Army in Europe and had reenlisted following his discharge.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Doris M. Kitner, Riverton, New Jersey; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Kitner, Millersburg; a brother Walter Kitner; and his grandfather, Norval Dannelley, of Millersburg.
